Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) has today welcomed its new Chair, Giles York.

Giles, whose appointment was announced in March, has previously been a Non-Executive Director at SCFT, holding a number of responsibilities including Chair of People Committee and Chair of Sussex Primary Care. He is also well-known across our county for leading Sussex Police as their Chief Constable from 2014 – 2020.

Speaking about his new role, Giles said: “I am incredibly pleased to begin my time as Chair of SCFT. Having been in the Trust as Non-Executive director since 2021 I’ve been able to see the great work our staff are doing to ensure our patients and their families receive effective, high quality care and I am delighted to be able to continue to support the Trust in its vision to provide excellent care at the heart of the community.”

“In my new role as Chair I am looking forward to supporting Siobhan Melia (Chief Executive) and her team as we continue to develop and improve services across the county as well as supporting colleagues who are all working to deliver excellent care in often challenging circumstances.”

Giles succeeds Peter Horn who has left the organisation after serving for two three-year terms.

Giles added: “I would like to thank Peter for all he has done for the Trust during his two terms and wish him the best for the future.”
