Winners at Celebrating Inspirational AHP Support Workforce National Awards

One of our members of staff, Zanya Petken has been recognised for their exceptional work and outstanding efforts at the Celebrating Inspirational AHP Support Workforce National Awards which took place in December.

The awards showcase the brilliant work carried out by Allied Health Professionals (AHP) support workers and shines a spotlight on the AHP lead support worker roles and case studies. 

Zanya has won the Reaching Your Potential Award for her continued contribution to service improvement. Zanya works as a Band 4 Associate Practitioner for the Falls Prevention Service based at Horsham Hospital. 

As an active member of a Quality Improvement project, Zanya has helped to improve the working environment and staff facilities in Rose Wing at Horsham Hospital.

Throughout the year, Zanya has helped to restart projects that were paused due to the Covid pandemic and has also re-designed our care home falls risk assessment form to improve the quality of the information we receive about care home referrals.

On a daily basis, Zanya assesses and treats patients with complex needs. This complexity comes not only from multiple physical and mental health problem but from complex social situations as well.  Zanya shows huge compassion for her patients, consistently going above and beyond to get the best outcomes for them. She is seen as a great ambassador of lifting team spirits, inclusive with all great events and is known to bring a feel-good factor to teams.

Zanya said: “I was very humbled to learn that I had been nominated for an award and even more so when I won.

I work with an amazing team and wonderful colleagues from other services based here at Horsham.

I feel valued daily and love my role as an Assistant Practitioner. I feel that as an AHP associate, I am able to really make a difference to my patient’s lives and also my colleagues.”

Also nominated and shortlisted at the Celebrating Inspirational AHP Support Workforce National Awards were Caroline Thorpe, Speech and Language Therapy Assistant and June Worley, Speech & Language Therapy Assistant.

Donna Lamb, Chief Nurse said: ‘I am delighted that Zanya and her colleagues, Caroline and June, have been recognised nationally for their inspirational approach and commitment to providing the best care. As AHP support workers they are vital members of the wider AHP workforce and promote effective, high quality team working.’

What is an AHP?

Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) help people live their lives as fully as possible by treating, rehabilitating and improving the lives of patients. AHP roles include Occupational Therapists, Dietitians, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists through to Cognitive Behavioural Therapist.
