Sussex Community shortlisted for Patient Safety Award

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) was shortlisted for the Patient Safety in the Community Award at the prestigious Patient Safety Awards, held on Tuesday 4 July in Manchester.

SCFT was shortlisted for its work to reduce the incidences of pressure damage in the community and in people’s own homes by 57% since 2014/15.

Pressure damage is a form of damage to the skin and underlying tissue. It is also known as ‘pressure ulcers’, ‘pressure sores’, or ‘bed sores’. If untreated it can get worse and seriously affect a person’s health and delays their recovery. Fortunately, most pressure damage can be prevented.

Susan Marshall, Chief Nurse, SCFT said “Being shortlisted for this award is fantastic recognition for the hard work and commitment of our staff. Every year since 2014 we have consistently reduced the number of pressure damage cases in our care. We have achieved this by increasing the number of risk assessments we undertake with patients and we ensure that all at-risk patients have an individual prevention plan, improving the experience of care for our patients.”
