SCFT's West Sussex health visiting service has retained its Baby-Friendly Unicef Gold Award.

The service (pictured below), part of the Trust’s Healthy Child Programme, has maintained the elite accreditation, which recognises excellent and sustained practice in the support of infant feeding and parent-infant relationships across West Sussex, for a second year.

SCFT remains the only Trust in the South East outside London to hold the award.

In the UK, the Baby-Friendly Initiative works with UK public services to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding and to strengthen mother-baby and family relationships. Support for these relationships is important for all babies, not only those who are breastfed.

Ellie Elkins, SCFT’s Infant Feeding Lead, West Sussex, said: "We are absolutely delighted to retain our Gold status and are very proud of our fantastic staff who have been recognised for the excellent standard of care and compassion with which they deliver infant feeding support.

"In a normal year this would be a great achievement, but during a pandemic when so many new families have experienced such exceptional challenge, this recognition is outstanding.

"We look forward to continuing to developing our services further and ensuring that every baby, mother and family is supported to receive the best possible start to life."

Anne Woods, Deputy Programme Director for Unicef, Baby-Friendly Initiative, said: "I would like to pass on congratulations from everyone at UNICEF UK for this excellent achievement and for maintaining the Gold award."
