Join our Council of Governors

Date: 06 January 2023

Would you like to become a Public Governor and help be the voice of your community?

We have three vacancies to join our Council of Governors, with seats available for Arun, High Weald Lewes Havens and Worthing.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to make a difference to the way we do things at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT)!

If you are located in Arun, High Weald Lewes Havens or Worthing, read on…

Our Governors play a vital role in the successful running of SCFT. They are there to ensure that our services, and the direction we take, relates to the needs of our local community.

We have 28 Governors in total at the Trust, with 15 of these seats belonging to Public Governors.

Our Council of Governors exits to:

  • Hold the non-executive directors individually and collectively to account for the performance of the board of directors.
  • Represent the interests of the membership of the Trust and the interests of the public.
  • Comply with the NHS Foundation Trust Code of Governance.

Alan Sutton, Lead Governor and Public Governor for Chichester, said:

“I originally joined simply as a trust member with an interest in giving something back to the NHS. I have been a patient over many years and more recently, since becoming a governor I decided to be a Research Champion with the National Institute of Health Research and a Dementia Volunteer. The opportunity to represent members, patients and the wider public at a time of massive changes is really exciting, especially against the background of the new collaborative approach taken by NHS Sussex and the Integrated Care System.

Governors are all volunteers with varying time to contribute but governors definitely have a strong voice and with their many differing skills, the opportunity to share them with each other and the board is priceless. Being a governor has widened my understanding of the services available locally and to make sure that they are being delivered to the highest standard possible.”

Applications are open from Friday 6 January 2023 and will close at 5pm on Monday 23 January 2023.

If you are passionate about the health and wellbeing of people in your area, apply now.

Full training is provided.
