HR advisor

The NHS, in particular Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT), is a great organisation with an amazing, supportive agenda and a vast amount of professional development opportunities.

Currently, the NHS has been the majority of my working life. I attended Hilltop Nursery, also based at the Brighton General, so from a very young age I was aware of the Trust. Now, the NHS has been instrumental in setting me up for a career in HR.

I completed my work experience with the lovely Primary Care Admin Team and always spent the holidays during Uni working on the Bank for various teams. Even now I see the Community Respiratory Team and we’re still very close, they’re an amazingly hardworking team who always have time to share a laugh.

After University, I wanted to pursue a career in HR and ended up getting myself a job in the brilliant Recruitment Team which was a lot of fun and a lot of work!

I am currently an HR advisor which is a new role for me, and a challenge that I’m really looking forward to.

The HR and OD team are extremely supportive, and although it can be a serious environment at times, everyone in the team shares a great sense of community and an even better sense of humour. The team is extremely professional and really do care about the needs of their employees.

Caroline Haynes, director of HR and OD, has also been influential in my professional development from the moment I started in Recruitment, no matter how busy she was. She is really invested in her employees and this was again something that made me proud to be working in the HR team.

I believe SCFT is a very inclusive Trust. We have recently developed networks which offer even further support to our employees. I’m actually the communications lead for the Black and Minority Ethnics (BAME) Staff Network, this is a really important network that provides support and raises awareness of the BAME members of the Trust.

My NHS hero would be my Mum; she’s been in the NHS for many years and still has the most amazingly positive attitude when it comes to her work. When I visit her team they always welcome anyone who comes through the door with a smile. They are very helpful and you get a real sense of friendship and fun, all whilst completing a very stressful job.
