Appointment information
Who you will see at your appointment
Depending on the treatment you need, you will see an experienced and registered podiatrist and/or orthotist, a registered tissue viability nurse, health care assistants, and our administrative staff.
What happens at the appointment?
An initial assessment will help us find out more about your overall foot health. The podiatrist will examine your feet and you will be asked questions about your foot health. You will need to provide information about your medical history and medication. To help us in this process, please bring a list of all medication with you.
The podiatrist will inform you if you have or are likely to develop any serious complications from your foot problems. We will then explain and carry out any treatment required, discuss follow-up appointments or referrals if needed and provide advice to help you manage your overall foot health.
Your treatment will depend on the need or problem identified. If treatment is required for corns and callouses it will be necessary for the podiatrist to use sterile sharp instruments. If treatment of toenails is required you may experience some discomfort and pressure around the nails. There is a small risk of skin damage in podiatry treatments and foot care procedures when sharp instruments need to be used.
If you do not understand the treatment that is proposed then please tell the podiatrist. If you are unsure about anything, please ask the podiatrist before the assessment.
Unfortunately, we no longer offer a routine nail cutting service.
What happens after treatment ends?
Once your course of treatment is completed, you will be discharged and a letter sent to your GP. If you need to be referred back to us you will need to contact your GP, practice nurse or other allied health professional.
How can I access this service?
To access our service you will need to be referred by your GP, a nurse or an allied health professional. Children also need to be referred by a healthcare professional which may be a GP, dentist, school nurse or community and specialist nurse.
We assess all referrals on the day of receipt and if your case is urgent we will contact you within 48 hours to book your appointment.
How can I contact this service?
Most appointments are face to face at one of our clinics and you will be advised on the location of your appointment when your booking is confirmed. We do offer home visits if a patient is housebound and meets set criteria. Some appointments can be performed via a telephone consultation.
Opening hours
These can vary according to location but are generally Monday to Friday, from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Our clinics are closed on bank holidays.
Contact details
Our services are split into four localities covering North, South and West of Sussex, and Brighton and Hove.
