During my 16 years as a district councillor, I encountered many interesting situations, not least in the health sector where people approached me for personal help.
My background in medicine is varied. I was married to a matron (SRN) who used to manage several rest homes in Richmond, Surrey. Subsequently my daughter has qualified at UCH in London and is currently a consultant geriatrician in Sydney, Australia.
My son-in-law is an orthopaedic surgeon also in Sydney. I have been very close to many people with medical problems, and I have tried to help them in my limited capacity.
I am very interested in furthering the excellence that can be obtained through the NHS. The role as governor will broaden my horizon and would put me in a position to obtain feedback from local people.
