School Nursing (Brighton and Hove Children and Families)

Aims

  • To provide agreed elements of the healthy child programme for school aged children attending state schools and government funded school academies

  • To provide an agreed immunisation programme to all school aged children attending both state and private schools and those educated at home in Brighton & Hove city

  • To access traditionally “hard to reach” groups of children and young people to ensure that they are able to receive the health input required

  • To improve the outcomes for children as identified in national and local strategies

  • Provides Specialist Immunisation team based at the Children and Families Clinic, Brighton General Hospital.

How To Access

School Nursing is provided through the Brighton and Hove Schools and Community Service. This service is delivered by Brighton & Hove City Council Children and Families Delivery Unit via a Section 75 Provider Agreement. This means that NHS functions have been delegated and NHS staff seconded to an integrated line management structure. The host organisation is the local authority. SCT retain clinical accountability and provide CQC registration for these functions.
