Welcome to the Children's Occupational Therapy Sensory Processing Information videos.
We are children's occupational therapists working for the Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.
Occupational therapy supports children and young people to participate in daily activities.
For example, self-care tasks including washing and dressing, activities in schools such as handwriting, or leisure and play activities such as sports and hobbies.
Occupational therapists know that sensory difficulties can affect a child's participation in the activities they need, want, or expected to do.
For example, having their teeth cleaned, attending social gatherings, or sitting still on the carpet in school.
The aim of our occupational therapy service is to enable parents, carers, and education staff to better understand a child's sensory needs and how to manage them, both now and in the future.
In the following videos, we will provide information and strategies to support children with sensory processing difficulties.
Alongside the videos is also a resource pack which includes many of the strategies we will discuss as well as some additional ideas to support children at school and at home.
We recommend you watch the videos in order, but recognise you may want to do this over a number of sessions.
