Dave - SERV volunteer

My name is David and I started volunteering as a motorbike rider for Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers (SERV) three years ago. In March 2017, along with some others in the SERV team, I also started volunteering for the Children's Community Nurses based at The Quadrant in Lancing.
We help the nurses by making weekly deliveries of small pieces of medical equipment and consumables to childrens’ homes where they are being cared for by carers in their own homes. Bikers are often given a bad press these days as leather clad hooligans. These children are critically ill and I get great satisfaction from using my bike for such a great purpose, helping these kids get the vital deliveries they need to keep them where they get great care; in their own homes.
One parent called me her ‘hero’, which gave me a bit of a warm glow on a very cold day to be on two wheels! My day job is as a back stage technical professional at corporate events, so I give as much of my free time as I can and recognise I am part of a team and we have a great coordinator that makes sure the deliveries are made each week.
