What does this service provide?

Who we are

Our team is led by emergency nurse practitioners and paramedic practitioners, who are supported by experienced treatment nurses and healthcare assistants.

What we do

We care for patients who attend with minor to moderate injuries and illnesses.

Most patients will be assessed, treated, and discharged during their visit. Some patients may be referred to hospital or other community services. Treatment summaries and any follow-up advice or treatment will then be shared with the patient’s GP.

Who you'll see at your appointment

Once you are booked in with the receptionist, you will be seen by a triage nurse who will assess the urgency of your condition. You could then be treated within the unit, given self-care advice, signposted, or referred to another healthcare provider.


What we can and can't treat

We can see patients with the following problems:

  • Arm and leg injuries, including fractures (breaks to bones), wounds, sprains, and strains (excluding potential hip or thigh fractures)
  • Minor head injuries, including minor wounds to head and face (excluding children under one year and those with associated neck injury, loss of consciousness or any vomiting)
  • New or recent wounds
  • Unwanted items in eyes, ears or nose
  • Rib injuries
  • Minor back injuries (but not long-term problems)
  • Insect and animal bites and stings
  • Burns and scalds
  • Sore throats, earache, chest infections and urinary tract infections
  • Rashes
  • Dressing problems (but not routine leg ulcer dressings)

We are unable to see patients with the following problems:

  • Chest pain or shortness of breath
  • Serious illnesses
  • Broken hips or thighs
  • Pregnancy and related problems
  • Long-term joint or back pain
  • Sexual health problems
  • Stomach pain
  • Mental health support

We are a walk-in service, and no referral is required.

Opening hours

We are open Monday to Friday, from 9:00am – 5:00pm.

We are closed on weekends and bank holidays.

The X-ray department is available Monday to Friday, from 9:00am to 5:00pm (last entrance 4:30pm).

Waiting times

Our waiting times change depending on the clinical needs of the department. Patients with the most urgent clinical needs will be prioritized to ensure they are seen first.
