Back Care Support Service for Carers

The Back Care Support Service aims to prevent injury and promote good health amongst carers in the community who are at risk of injury or have suffered an injury whilst caring for someone.

A support worker will visit the carer in their own home, where advice can be tailored to suit each individual situation.

Advice given may cover:

  • Safer ways of carrying out tasks that involve moving and handling
  • Basic principles of good posture and how to care for your back
  • Equipment available to help with manual handling
  • Other useful services and organisations
  • Service Location:
    • Brighton
    • Hove
  • How To Access:
You can be referred via any health or social care service (e.g. your GP or social worker) or voluntary sector organisation (e.g. Carers Centre, Age UK, Mencap). Anybody making a referral on behalf of carer needs to submit a completed referral form using the contact details below.

You can also refer yourself by using any of the contact details below.

To be eligible for support you have to be an unpaid carer for someone living in their own home (i.e. not in a residential or nursing home). The person you are caring for must be registered with a Brighton and Hove primary care trust GP.
