Public and Staff Governors confirmed at SCT

The results of the election and nomination process for the public and staff governors at Sussex Community NHS Trust (SCT) have today been confirmed.

There were public elections in four out of nine public constituencies: Brighton & Hove, Chichester, Horsham and Worthing, with thirteen candidates seeking six places on the council of governors. In SCT’s other public constituencies the prospective governors stood unopposed.

The following public members will now serve on the SCT council of governors:

  • Adur: Liz Workman.
  • Arun: Stephen Barnett, Mike Widdows.
  • Brighton & Hove: Richard King, David Romaine, Andrew Partington.
  • Chichester: John Nicholson.
  • Crawley: Sakaria Najib.
  • Horsham: Lilian Bold.
  • Mid Sussex: Edward Belsey.
  • Worthing: Wayne Hoban.
  • Out of Area: Barby Dashwood-Morris.

Fourteen SCT staff members contested five places across four SCT staff governor categories, and the following staff members were elected to serve on the council of governors:

  • Nurses: Julie Warwick, Ngaire Cox.
  • Doctors & dentists: Jennifer Parry.
  • Support staff: Ashley Chace.
  • Therapists, allied health professionals & healthcare assistants: Yvonne Palmer.

SCT chair Sue Sjuve said: “We’re delighted to announce the outcome of the process. These results represent another significant step forward in our preparations to become an NHS foundation trust.

“Our public and staff governors will join governors appointed by our key partners to form a 23-strong council of governors. The council will work with the trust board to help develop our strategy, hold the board to account and represent the views of our members and the wider public we serve.”

SCT has now made a formal application to Monitor, the regulator of NHS foundation trusts (FTs), to be authorised to become an FT, and Monitor has begun its assessment process. Should all go according to plan, and subject to the outcome of the board-to-board meeting between SCT and Monitor scheduled for January 2016, Monitor should be able to confirm SCT’s FT status by 1st April.
