Sussex Community NHS Trust celebrates Volunteers Week with a thank you

Sussex Community NHS Trust (SCT) celebrated Volunteers Week today (5 June) by hosting a ‘thank you’ drinks event at their Brighton General Hospital site.

It was an opportunity for SCT chair Sue Sjuve to say thank you to some of the nearly 500 volunteers that support the organisation which is the biggest community NHS provider in the South East.

Many of the volunteers present give their time unpaid in services across Sussex, ranging from helping patients in pulmonary rehabilitation exercise groups, staffing reception areas and facilitating reminiscence and reading aloud groups.

They ensure patients have a hot drink when they use services and are buddies to patients who have had life threatening conditions. Some volunteers are also trained to give support to patients who have a long term health condition.

If you are interested in joining our team of well supported and happy volunteers visit the SCT website: http://www.sussexcommunity.nhs.uk/get-involved/volunteering/.
