Our record-breaking food bank collection

Date: 14 December 2020

Thanks to the astonishing generosity of SCFT staff, we delivered a record-breaking 175.5kg of donations to Brighton Food Bank last Wednesday, in time to support their busy festive season.

Our Brighton Food Bank collections weighed in at 100kg in 2018 and 161kg in 2019, and this year’s bumper total is a testament to the ongoing generosity and compassion of our SCFT teams, even at the end of such a challenging year.

Donations were coordinated by several services across our Brighton General Hospital site, including our Executive team, Finance, Human Resources, Professional Nursing and Therapy, Quality and Safety, Speech and Language Therapy, and Tissue Viability. Colleagues were asked to bring in store cupboard food, toiletries, and additional Christmas treats including crackers, mince pies and boxes of chocolates.

This year’s collection was managed by Lucy Scragg, our Professional Head of Nursing and Education, who made sure the collection points and our delivery were handled in a safe and COVID-secure manner:

“It’s been an especially tough year for lots of people in Brighton, and sadly this is needed more than ever,” Lucy explained. “The NHS has been so well supported, and this seemed like a fantastic opportunity to give back, and help others who are less fortunate.

“I didn’t know what to expect this year, but everyone’s gone above and beyond. I’m so pleased and overwhelmed with the volume of contributions. I’d like to thank everyone who donated, and of course our brilliant Fleet Office for helping us with the delivery.”

As a Trust, we are phenomenally proud of our teams’ kindness and community spirit, and their commitment to helping vulnerable people in their time of need. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to and coordinated this year’s collection, and helped to make it such an amazing success.
