Nurse training with Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Brighton – furthering careers

We provide a range of student placements, development for Bands 1 to 4 and university funding for staff to enter children’s and adults nursing or to further their careers. Students and our staff can be assured of a range of learning opportunities and support from our qualified professionals.

Hear from our three students/employees below about their recent experiences:

Stevie trains and becomes a Community Nurse

During my nurse training via the University of Brighton, I was very well supported by Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT). I received ongoing guidance and advice from my secondment support, Wendy McCarthy, Practice Education Facilitator at SCFT, and if I had any problems she was always there to help.

I also had a lot of guidance when it came to getting a job. There were days to help us apply for jobs giving us tips and advice, and again, Wendy was always there to give whatever advice and support was required. I now work as a Community Nurse for SCFT, and the support is still there if I ever need any advice. I am very pleased I got a job within this trust.

Karen trains and becomes a Health Visitor

I consider myself very lucky to have been supported through my training as a Children’s Nurse by Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT).

Financially, as a mature student with a family, the funding I received enabled me to take up my placement at the University of Brighton and throughout my training I met regularly with Wendy McCarthy, Practice Education Facilitator with the trust, who I found extremely supportive and encouraging.

After my training I took a role as a Staff Nurse in one of the Health Visiting teams and have since gone on to complete the Specialist Community Public Health Degree. I am now a Health Visitor with SCFT. Without the trust’s support there is no way I would have been able to progress my career to this extent.

Yasmin trains and becomes a Community Registered Practitioner

It has been such a rewarding experience studying on the nursing degree course at the University of Brighton. I received excellent support throughout the course from Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust who were my sponsors. Since qualifying in 2016 it has led me to an exciting career within the trust which is a fantastic opportunity.

I would like to thank John Khrone and Wendy Macarthy who were both brilliant Practice Education Facilitators at SCFT throughout my training.
