A triple win for Sussex Community NHS Trust
23 April 2015

Who Dares Wins!

It was a triple win for Sussex Community NHS Trust (SCT) at the NHS Sustainability Awards on Thursday 16 April at the America Square conference centre in London.

The trust’s innovative sustainability strategy, Care Without Carbon, and its staff engagement campaign, Dare to Care, scooped awards in three categories, Human Resources, Clinical and Behaviour Change.

SCT is working in partnership with Capita Health Partners (provider of business process management and support service solutions) to deliver Care Without Carbon, of which the Dare to Care campaign is an integral part, driving behaviour change across the trust. It provides a way to improve the wellbeing of staff and patients, reduce waste and emissions and save money.

The NHS Sustainability Awards are organised by the NHS Sustainable Development Unit and were established to encourage, benchmark and reward action on creating a more sustainable NHS. The fully sponsored event is free to enter. Entries are judged by a panel of senior NHS staff and sector leaders with a wealth of experience across all categories.

Will Clark, SCT’s Associate Director Energy and Environment, said, “To win all three categories we entered is incredible and really motivating. We have so much more we want to do with the programme – this is a great start. It is wonderful recognition by our peers of the work we are doing with Care Without Carbon.”

Event sponsors handed out the awards on the night, along with TV presenter Monty Don.

These awards are the latest to be won by SCT (see notes) and represent real progress on meeting challenging targets to reduce CO2 emissions and cut down waste. SCT is the first trust to apply the Care Without Carbon programme.
