Nus Ghani MP visits Uckfield Community Hospital

Staff from Sussex Community NHS Trust (SCT) hosted a visit from Nus Ghani to meet the community, nursing and therapy teams based at Uckfield Community Hospital. These teams help support people to live healthy, independent lives in their own homes as well as support people to get back home after a period of hospital stay.

The visit was supported by the local Friends who raise monies to purchase equipment to improve patient experience at the hospital.

Nus saw the:

  • Minor Injuries Unit who assist and treat minor injuries including fractures to adults and children. The unit is staffed by emergency nurse practitioners and other nursing staff seven days a week 8am to 8pm. X-ray facilities are available on site between 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 12pm to 6pm Saturday and Sunday.
  • Harlands Ward, Inpatient Care Unit a 14-bedded unit for people who need short-term rehabilitation before returning home. Nurse and therapy lead the unit supports timely discharges from acute hospitals.
  • Nursing teams who provide care in the community and support people to manage their conditions to live well.
  • Theatre which provides day surgery services. This is provided by East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.

Nus Ghani MP said: “I’m hugely grateful to everyone who welcomed me so warmly at Uckfield Community Hospital. Community services are a vital piece of the health and care jigsaw, and giving patients the confidence that comes with independence is a wonderful thing for which we should all be thankful.”

Alison Whitehorn, deputy chief operating officer, SCT said: “It was a privilege to meet with Nus and to introduce her to a number of our community services which we provide from Uckfield Community Hospital. Our vision is to provide excellent care at the heart of the community, to support people to remain as independent as possible and to help people get back home after a period of hospital stay or treatment.”
