Helena and Karen submit winning abstract to Research Week

Date: 08 June 2022

Senior Clinical Pharmacist Helena Stimpson and Principal Clinical Pharmacist Karen Varisco submitted the winning abstract to the recent Research in the Community Week organised by the Trust and Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT), our Research team has revealed.

Dr William Van’t Hoff, Chief Executive of the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN), announced the winners during the final session on Friday 20 May. The session coincided with International Clinical Trials Day 2022.

Helena and Karen’s pilot study demonstrated that medicines optimisation with inpatients with acute frailty syndromes benefits individual patients and the health economy, enhancing the quality and safety of patient care and saving money.

Helena and Karen said: "We are delighted our abstract was selected. We enjoyed doing research that is contributing to development of a Trust Frailty Pathway and it is great that the good work of SCFT Medicines Management Team has been appreciated by SCFT and KCHFT in selecting our abstract."

The Research team thanks colleagues who submitted their work and congratulates them on striving to improve services and patient care.

The team also thanks those who participated and attended the Research Week's online lunchtime sessions.

You can view Helena and Karen’s presentation and other recordings from the event on the Trust website on the research page under the heading Research Week 2022.
