Sussex community nurse gets national award for leadership skills

Trudy Ward, head of children’s community nursing with Sussex Community NHS Trust has been given a national award by NHS England chief executive Simon Stevens.

He presented her with an award in executive healthcare leadership, as part of the Nye Bevan leading care programme at the NHS Leadership Academy’s graduation ceremony.

Trudy said, “I found the Nye Bevan programme to be innovative, challenging and inspiring. It has enabled me to broaden my influencing skills within and beyond my immediate sphere of healthcare and shape my leadership across diverse organisational boundaries.”

The Nye Bevan programme has been specifically designed to develop senior leaders and prepare them to become executive directors. It gives them the leadership skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviours to lead tomorrow’s NHS. Over 12 months they learn with experts in international healthcare and leaders from some of the world’s most successful businesses – including Manchester Business School, University of Birmingham Health Services Management Centre, the Universities of Harvard School of Public Health, Erasmus and Pretoria, KPMG and the patient and service user organisation National Voices.
