Friends of The Kleinwort Centre improve the experience for our patients and staff

The Friends of the Kleinwort Centre (FKC) was set up just over a year ago to improve the experience for patients and staff at The Kleinwort Centre. Based in Haywards Heath, The Kleinwort Centre is highly regarded for the excellent intermediate care it provides to people following a period of acute hospital stay due to illness, or after surgery, and supports people to get back home, as soon as it is safe to do so.

FKC are actively seeking support from the public. Their work so far includes:

Official hand over with running of the shop

The Mayor of Haywards Heath, Councillor Sandy Ellis, visited The Kleinwort Centre recently to "officially" hand over the running of the shop to FKC from staff. Councillor Sandy Ellis said "My visit to The Kleinwort Centre was specifically to thank staff who established the shop for patients. The shop has now been handed over to FKC who will now run this.

"Being away from home can be very difficult, so having access to some home comforts from the shop can bring real benefits. I very much enjoyed my visit and to see the wonderful care and facilities The Kleinwort Centre provides for patients."

FKC purchase sensory balls and activities

Our physiotherapists were keen to encourage patients to improve the use of their hands before they returned home. FKC have kindly purchased sensory balls which patients now use as well as activities such as games and crossword puzzle books to improve hand movement and the patient experience.

Improving the appearance of the gardens

FKC have also purchased garden equipment. The gardens are much appreciated by the patients - some of who volunteer to help with some of the smaller jobs. The Kleinwort Centre took part in the Strictly Come Gardening competition, an initiative by the Mayor for all local care homes but including The Kleinwort Centre. Sandy donated some sensory plants, which were put into large barrels, with the help of some of the patients. Patients also helped to make a mosaic using tiles donated (see photos below). The mosaic was judged third and is now on display in the garden along with all the plants.
