South Coast Audit Consortium merges with TIAA Limited

We are delighted to announce that we have completed the transfer of the South Coast Audit (SCA) function into TIAA Limited.  The transfer took effect on 1 January 2014, and the new organisation, trading under the name of TIAA, will offer public and private sector clients across the UK a fresh, vibrant voice in the business assurance market. 

Jonathan Reid, Sussex Community NHS Trust’s executive director of finance, facilities & estates, said: “This transfer helps the trust focus on its core patient services as we continue our progress towards NHS Foundation Trust status.  Importantly, however, the merger also safeguards the future of all SCA staff as part of a large specialist provider that is better able to invest in developing their important assurance work. 

“TIAA will continue to provide internal auditing and local counter fraud support to SCT and we look forward to working with them as they expand their business.” 

SCA Managing Director, Mike Townsend, joins TIAA’s senior management team as Regional Managing Director.  Mike said: “The fusion of SCA and TIAA creates an organisation whose clients can now call on the expertise of over 160 specialist professionals.  Our clients lie at the heart of everything we do, and I am looking forward to building on the best that each organisation offers so that every one of our clients reaps the benefit.”

Background information:

  • SCA was originally established in 1983 as a shared service internal audit consortium by a number of NHS Trusts based in the South East.  In the last 30 years SCA has grown so that it now delivers a range of internal audit, computer audit, counter-fraud and security management services to over 40 public-sector bodies across the South of England from Dorchester to Dover. 
  • Sussex Community NHS Trust has hosted SCA, and employed all its staff, since the trust was established in 2010.  Sussex Community NHS Trust are the main provider of community NHS healthcare across Brighton & Hove and West Sussex, and the largest community healthcare provider in the South of England strategic health authority that stretches from Cornwall to Kent.  Our expert teams provide essential medical, nursing and therapeutic care to over 8,000 adults, children and families a day. 
  • TIAA began operation in 1995 as a specialist internal audit provider within the social housing sector.  Since its formation it has expanded its range of services, and now helps clients across the whole UK and across all sectors - including education, healthcare, police and charities.
