Sexual Health Week - 15 to 21 September

This year's theme for Sexual Health Week is emergency contraception.

We provide a number of sexual health services across Brighton & Hove who are supporting the campaign:

FREE emergency hormonal contraception is available across the city. Download the list of available locations.

Here are some facts and how we can help:

  • Emergency contraception can be taken up to 72 hours after unprotected sex to prevent an unplanned pregnancy. It is more effective the sooner it is taken.
  • There is a new type of emergency contraception pill available at Morley Street CASH that can be taken up to 120 hours after unprotected sex. It is recommended advice is sought as soon as possible to avoid an unplanned pregnancy following unprotected sex.
  • Morley Street CASH can fit an emergency IUD coil after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. This will also provide longer-term contraceptive cover.
  • Morley Street has a walk-in and wait service every Monday to Friday from 2-7pm. No appointment needed – just turn up.
  • Emergency contraception is free from GPs, for everyone, regardless of age. There is no prescription charge for emergency contraception.
  • Our service is discreet and confidential. We take emergency appointments if emergency contraception is needed.
  • Some pharmacies in Brighton & Hove can offer FREE emergency contraception to under 25’s up to 72 hours after unprotected sex.
  • Some GP surgeries run weekly drop-ins for young people aged under 25 where they can offer FREE emergency contraception. No need to be registered - just turn up.
  • It's a good idea to have a sexual health check-up following unprotected sex. The Claude Nicol centre offers a walk-in and wait service on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8.30am-10.30am.
  • Free chlamydia and gonorrhoea screening is available from a variety of places for under 25’s including postal kits. Just email your name, address and gender to SC-TR.BrightonCASH@nhs.net.
