New AHP Research Champions

The two new National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and Council for Allied Health Professions Research (CAHPR) Research Champions for Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) are Christopher Horler and Carolina Goncalves.

Chris is an Advanced Practitioner Physiotherapist working for Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) within the Sussex MSK Partnership. He has developed his research profile through the Health Education England/NIHR Clinical Academic Programme, completing a research internship and a master's degree in Clinical Research.

Carolina is a Rotational Physiotherapist at Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WSHT). She has recently completed a Clinical Academic PhD and has published scientific work in the areas of outcome measurement, physical activity, dementia, and burden of treatment. Carolina also has experience in leading and collaborating with service evaluation, audit, and quality improvement work.

Through their Research Champion roles Chris and Carolina aim to support, facilitate and promote Allied Health Professional (AHP) research activity across the KSS area. They will act as super-connectors, linking research active AHPs together, and signposting their colleagues to research support services. They will work collaboratively with existing NIHR, CAHPR and NHS teams across the region to facilitate AHP research.
