NHS in Sussex launches county-wide improvement campaign

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) has launched a major programme of improvement across all of its hospitals, clinics and community teams.

The project, called Our Community Way, launched on Wednesday 4 April to a packed course of 60 people, including community nurses, physiotherapists, estates, finance and administration staff.

To launch Our Community Way, SCFT has built a small team of three Quality Improvement Specialists to teach learning and improvement techniques to the Trust’s 5,000 staff.

Using an evidence-based approach, data and improvement tools the Trust aims to improve how it provides care and administrative and financial process right across the £229m turnover organisation.

Siobhan Melia, Chief Executive of SCFT, said: “We know that our teams are doing brilliant things each and every day, but we also want to be better – for our patients, the communities we serve but also for each other.

“It is a really exciting time to be part of SCFT. As an organisation we are totally committed to learning and improving and Our Community Way is going to be vital in propelling us to where we want to be.” The Trust, which provides community services on wards, in clinics and people’s homes, right across Sussex, is seeking to play a bigger part in the local NHS.

It recently announced that it had become the only provider of school and community immunisation services for 0-19 year olds in Sussex after being awarded a £1.2m contract.

The Trust has also entered into an innovative partnership to provide vital GP services in East Brighton.
