Jeremy Quin MP visits Horsham Hospital

Our staff hosted a visit from Jeremy Quin MP earlier today to meet our community, nursing and therapy teams based at Horsham Hospital. Our teams help support people to live healthy, independent lives in their own homes as well as support people to get back home after a period of hospital stay.

Jeremy met with our teams to learn more about our work to support people in the community with long-term conditions, including the frail elderly, to keep them in their own homes for longer and to avoid unnecessary admissions to hospital.

Jeremy saw our:

  • Community Nursing Team who care for some of the most vulnerable people in our communities: housebound patients who have a long-term health condition and the frail elderly. They play a vital role in keeping hospital admissions to a minimum and ensuring that people can return to their own homes as soon as possible.
  • Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team help people who have been clinically diagnosed with a stroke, haemorrhage or acquired brain injury and who have the potential for improvement through rehabilitation.
  • Proactive Care brings together professionals including GPs, social services, hospital, community and ambulance services who agree a care plan with the patient, their carers and families, to ensure they can be cared for and remain in their own home for longer.
  • Time to Talk self-referral service which provides talking therapy treatments to help people with stress, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, low self-esteem and relationship difficulties.
  • Horizon Unit, a 38-bedded unit for people who need short-term rehabilitation or palliative care. The unit is seeing more elderly people with multiple, complex conditions including dementia.
  • Minor Injuries Unit assist and treat minor injuries including fractures to adults and children. The unit is staffed by emergency nurse practitioners and other nursing staff Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. X-ray facilities are available on site.

Jeremy Quin MP said: Horsham Hospital is held with enormous affection by local people. The range and quality of services provided is impressive as is the dedication of all who work there. I greatly enjoyed meeting the staff and management in Hurst Road, Horsham Hospital which I hope can be the centre for increased services as we continue to provide for a growing population.”

Sue Sjuve, chair at SCT said: It was a privilege to meet with Jeremy and to introduce him to a number of our community services, who support people to remain as independent as possible in their own homes, and who help people get back home after a period of hospital stay. In particular Jeremy said our Proactive Care service is at the “cutting edge” of what the NHS is doing to keep people well in the community.
