Black History Month - Celebration of African Cultures Event

We have been working closely with our BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) Staff Network to organise two fantastic events that we encourage all our staff to attend. The first of these - Celebration of African Cultures - took place on Thursday 17 October. It was a vibrant, educational afternoon that gave attendees an opportunity to learn more about African cultural heritage and personal care for our black patients. There was delicious African food, powerful poetry readings, music, dance and traditional African attire for everyone to try on and enjoy.

For those who weren’t able to attend we are sharing some highlights here:

Presentation on the ‘Continent of Africa’ by Dr James Sambo

  • Did you know that over 2,000 languages are spoken across Africa?
  • Did you know Africa is the second most populous continent with about 1.1 billion people - that's 16% of the world’s population?

Read more about this fascinating continent in James' presentation

Poetry readings by Hannah Oguntade and Daphne Adikini

Ghanaian Music from Annor Perc

Personal care for black patients – Edore Sambo
