Giving Month - Crowborough War Memorial Hospital

The Friends of Crowborough Hospital will be fundraising throughout August.

As Crowborough War Memorial Hospital's legendary August Bank Holiday Monday fete has been suspended this year, the Friends of Crowborough Hospital have arranged a Giving Month, running throughout August, to boost their fundraising efforts.

From Saturday 1 August the Friends will have a pop-up shop in the vacated part of Chappell’s Pharmacy and Health Food Store on Croft Road, thanks to Chappell's owner Mr Mahendra Sharma, who has kindly donated the space for the month. The pop-up will be open Mondays-Saturdays, 10:30am-2:30pm, selling a wide range of goods including greeting cards, homemade preserves, and hand-knitted children’s clothes.

The Crowborough branches of Waitrose and Morrisons will both be supporting the Friends' Giving Month too. Waitrose have nominated the Friends as one of three recipients of its £1,000 charitable giving throughout August, and Morrisons have invited Friends volunteers to collect cash donations in their Pine Grove store from Saturday 1 August to Friday 7 August.

Friends’ chairman Chantal Wilson said: "It is so disappointing that the hospital fete cannot go ahead this year, but we still have a great opportunity for the community to show its appreciation of the hospital and raise vital funds. During August I hope everyone will use the new opportunities we have created for giving to the hospital. I’m sure we can rely on the usual great support we receive from Crowborough people. There is no better time to support your local NHS."

The hospital fete has been a feature of Crowborough's summer calendar since the 1950s, and this is the first time it has been cancelled in over 60 years. The Friends hope that the fete will be able to return bigger and better than ever in 2021.
