Crawley shoppers showed trolleys full of Christmas cheer by donating hundreds of toys to children being cared for by the NHS.

The donations were collected by employees at the Hazelwick branch of Tesco and donated to the Children’s Community Nursing Team based at Crawley Hospital.

Trolleys of gift-wrapped toys were presented to the nurses and will be given to children, young people and their families in time for the festive season.

The Children’s Community Nursing Service supports children, young people and their families. They may be living with a long-term condition, have complex health needs, or live with a disability. Many will have continuing care needs or live with life limiting or life threatening conditions.

Rachel Barry, Team Lead, at Jumbo Ward, Crawley Hospital, said: “Everyone in our team has been overwhelmed by the generosity of giving by local people. I know the children, young people and their families will appreciate receiving a toy during this festive period. On behalf of the children we would like to thank everyone who donated.”

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) runs the  Children’s Community Nursing  Team in Crawley. Its staff care for approximately 250 children and young people aged 0-19.
