Celebration of Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurses in Brighton & Hove

On 22nd July our Brighton & Hove Health Visiting Team and School Nurses held a ‘Celebration of Practice’ at Moulsecoomb Children’s Centre.

This celebration is held every year to congratulate our Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (Health Visitors and School Nurses) on completing their training. This event marks their incredible achievements over the past academic year: completing an honours degree in one year at the University of Brighton and in placement at Children’s Centres in Brighton & Hove.

Our celebration gives our staff that have supported students over the year an opportunity to meet them to see their finished innovative research, practice assessments, poster presentations and completed work based learning project.

This year, the students gave presentations on: screen time for children under five; how Health Visitors can support teenage parents in understanding baby cues to aid in promoting attachment; exploring the issues surrounding the use of healthy child clinics; oral health: the effects that sugar has on teeth; and an investigation into evidence and current recommendations for controlled crying as part of a good sleep hygiene regime.

The event was really well attended with guests from the University of Brighton, Brighton & Hove City Council Social Care and Children’s Services, our Health Visiting Team and School Nurses.

As always fabulous refreshments and excellent cake was enjoyed by all!

Thank you to all those that attended and to the students for their hard work with their presentations.
