Carers Health Clinician in West Sussex wins Carers Award

Mike Dixon, Carers Health Clinician, who works as part of the Carers Health Team in West Sussex, wins the Carers Award at the Sussex Armed Forces Network Military Awards. The Carers Health Team is a community service provided by Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust which supports informal carers to maintain their own health and wellbeing whilst caring for others.

The awards were held at the American Express Community Stadium on Tuesday 23 January as part of the Sussex Armed Forces Network event: Together we can make a difference – a multi-disciplinary conference to demonstrate the work taking place across Surrey, Sussex and Kent & Medway for the Armed Forces Community.

Sussex Armed Forces Network said “Mike is a very motivated and committed healthcare professional who understands the role the Armed Forces can play in helping to support ex-service people and their families. He has ensured that his colleagues in the Carers Health Team are fully understanding of the support available from the Network as well promoting this support throughout his everyday role. He undertakes home visits, and supports carers in local GP surgeries and libraries.

“Mike always goes the extra mile to try and make a difference to informal carers and their families.”

Mike, who was presented with the award from Peter Field, Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, said: "I was surprised and delighted to receive an award for the work I do within the Carers Health Team. This service is the first of its kind in the country, providing NHS support for carers, enabling the cared-for to remain at home. It is essential that the NHS focuses on maintaining and improving the health of carers, especially those supporting former military personnel who have served the nation.”
