Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital host a visit from the mayor

Our staff hosted a visit from the mayor of Bognor Regis, Tony Gardiner, today, to highlight the good work of the hospital. He saw the community, nursing and therapy teams who help support people to live healthy, independent lives in their own homes or who need a stay at one of the inpatient wards before returning home.

Brian Knight, chairman and with the Friends of Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital since 1980, who helped set up the visit, also attended. The Friends have raised significant monies since 1953 to support and improve the experience for patients and staff at the hospital.

Karen Richards, modern matron, gave the mayor a tour of the hospital. It included a visit to our rheumatology service, an opportunity to meet with staff – tea and cake provided, as well as seeing the work of the outpatients department.

The mayor, Tony Gardiner said: “What a fantastic visit – to see everything the hospital has to offer. It was great to learn about the work at the hospital and to meet the staff. Their work makes a real difference to peoples’ lives.”

Brian Knight, chairman of the Friends said: “It was a pleasure to meet with the mayor of Bognor Regis and matron Karen Richards to show the work of the various clinics and departments at the hospital. And to show how the work of the Friends has supported the hospital and residents of Bognor Regis and neighbouring towns and villages over the years, from legacies and donations made to the Friends and spent within the hospital, including funds raised at our annual fete held on the first Saturday every August.”

Karen Richards, modern matron, said: “It was a pleasure to host a visit from the mayor. The mayor was able to see first-hand the work of our teams. Our teams work with people to help avoid deterioration in their health, to keep them in their home where they prefer to be and to help them to get back home following a period of hospital stay at our inpatient wards with appropriate care and support.

“I particularly want to thank the Friends of Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital for their continued support of the hospital. They have raised a significant amount of money over the years. And their work in organising our popular, annual summer fete, which has a great community spirit. All monies donated go a long way to improve the experience for our patients and staff”.

Donations to the Friends should be made out to Friends of Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital and addressed to: Brian Knight, Friends of Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital, Shripney Road, Bognor Regis PO22 9PP.
