A great place to work and receive care – 2019 NHS Staff Survey results

The 2019 NHS Staff Survey results show that an overwhelming majority of Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) staff recommend the Trust as a place to work and receive care.

More than 3,100 people (66% of the organisation) responded to tell us what they enjoy about working at SCFT and what they would like to see improved.

The results showed that:

  • 81% of people said care is our top priority
  • 79% would recommend the care we provide to family or friends
  • 71% would recommend the Trust as a place to work

Siobhan Melia, SCFT’s Chief Executive, said:  

“A record number of our people responded to the latest survey - 66%, which is an amazing 16% increase from two years ago. This shows just how engaged we all are in making improvements to make the Trust a great place to work.

The vast majority of our staff said care is our top priority, and that they would be happy for a friend or relative to be treated by us.

Even more people said that they would recommend the Trust as a place to work this year. Last year’s survey brought about meaningful improvements and these results indicate that the impact of these changes has been positive.”

Where we did well

  • We improved on three key themes: morale, the quality of appraisals, and quality of care
  • We are above average for eight of the 11 themes in the survey

Where we want to do better

  • We want to reduce the number of our people who experience bullying, harassment or abuse from patients, service users, relatives or members of the public, or their colleagues

What changed last time?

Last year's survey results led to some important improvements across the Trust. There was even more investment in our staff wellbeing and staff networks, and we increased our leadership and management development opportunities.
