Sarah Hollingdale

Sarah was a voluntary walk leader for Brighton and Hove Health Walks until her duties were suspended by lockdown rules.

So when she and her fellow volunteers, including her partner, Gavin Baker, who is also one of our vaccination heroes, were asked if they wanted to volunteer for the vaccination programme, she jumped at the chance to help.

“I wanted to give something back and help the wider community,” says the 35-year-old, who lives in Brighton. “The last year has often made me feel as if I was swept up in events outside my control, so I wanted to do something positive to stop the spread of the virus.

“I feel strongly that it is really important that vulnerable people are protected.”

Since February 2021, Sarah has volunteered as a vaccine steward at the Brighton Centre.

“I love being able to give something back to my community in Brighton and actively help people,” she says. “I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life. I have been working from home since March 2020, so have enjoyed meeting different people.”

Seeing the vaccine centre operating made Sarah realise how quickly arrangements were put in place to tackle the country’s “biggest challenge”.

“Seeing the numbers of people who are quickly being vaccinated makes me feel more hopeful for the future,” she says.
