June and Mike
Volunteers at Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital

June worked in social services for 32 years and Mike worked for the ambulance service for 21 years at the Bognor ambulance station.

June said "Mike and I are fortunate that we are able to help people who use and work at the hospital. There are many people with poor health that are unable to get about. And the hospital really welcomes you in.

"It's really important that we can give something back - and that we feel part and close to our local community. People really appreciate the help and support we're able to give.

"As a volunteer you start off slow, doing the odd occasional task, but Mike and I now run the tea bar and Mike attends to the general maintenance of the hospital gardens.

"We've met many wonderful people over the years and it's been great to listen to their colourful life stories. We love being part of the hospital and our local NHS."
