Stan Pearce

Governor for Brighton & Hove

The role of Governor is important because it makes the connection between the Board and the public we represent. We have to put patients high on our list of importance and establish trust. The NHS is important to me because it saved my daughter when she was two years' old and has helped me deal with all of my health conditions.

My experience of the NHS is not just personal but professional too. I'm involved in musculoskeletal (MSK), the Trust's Expert Patient's Programme, Diabetes UK Brighton & Hove Group and Chair of Possibility People. I am also a school governor for Hill Park and Cruse Bereavement.

I like Sussex Community because of the strong sense of teamwork, everyone works closely and you can speak to anyone if you have a problem.

If I was to give any advice to prospective governors, I'd say if you are prepared to put the effort into something, you will get a lot back out of it!
