David McGill
Lead Governor

I became a Governor in 2016 and was elected by fellow Governors to the position of Lead Governor.

The guiding principle of a Foundation Trust is that Governors have a responsibility to be a voice on behalf of its Members, ensuring those voices are heard and listened to. I use my listening skills to hear the views of patients and staff, and take these to the Board for response.

I’m proud of my contribution in helping Governors play a full part in ensuring the Trust operates with moral and financial integrity.

The Arun constituency is big. I encouraged the Trust that a second Public Governor was needed, which was confirmed in March 2019. So together, the two of us will strive to be even more in touch with the area going forward.

The NHS has been invaluable to me. I’ve been a diabetic for 50+ years, receiving care in hospital and in the community. I’ve overseen the care of both my parents at the end of their lives.

I’m a trained coalminer, was a global HR manager in the oil industry, and ran a charity at Windsor Castle. So, I have the experience to bring thinking from outside the health service.
