What we do

What can a child, young person and their family expect from the service?

  • An assessment, which may include investigation, diagnosis and treatment and early intervention based on a child and family's individual needs.
  • A flexible and responsive service committed to working in partnership with parents/carers and children and young people.
  • High quality information and support at the earliest opportunity, to plan together with families to meet their needs .
  • A counselling service for parents and carers of children known to the child development service.

How can I access this service?

Parents and carers can ask any health professional or educational setting who knows their child to complete a referral form and send it into the Child Development team.

Usually the GP, hospitals, School Nurse, Health Visitor or SENCO will refer a child, with the parents' permission. All information given will be treated as confidential, however it is normal practice for staff at the Child Development Centre to share information with professional colleagues who may be able to assist in the correct advice for your child. If you do not wish this to happen, please let us know.

We can arrange for an interpreter or translator to attend the appointment, if required, provided prior notice has been received.

We do not currently accept parental referrals when a child or young person first is referred to the Child Development Services.
