What does this service provide?
Who we are
We are a joint clinic of a specialist nurse practitioner and a visiting consultant paediatrician specialising in neuropathic bladder management.
What we do
Our highly specialised nurse practitioner and consultant paediatrician provide advice, and a management or treatment programme for those experiencing neuropathic bladder.
We focus on those with continence problems because of a neurological impairment and complex disability, providing a more detailed assessment of continence difficulties, including any post-operative issues.
We also diagnose continence disorders and provide treatment or a management plan.
We are here to support your local paediatrician and local continence teams, providing information and support, advice on specialist equipment and can offer a second opinion if continence difficulties are not responding to treatment.
Appointment information
Appointment types
Our appointments take place at the outpatient clinic Chailey Clinical Services. When you arrive, our receptionist will show you where to wait for your appointment. The nurse practitioner will meet you and take you to the clinic room.
Each appointment will last 30 minutes. Our specialist nurse practitioner may arrange a more detailed bladder function assessment if necessary; the time for this appointment will be flexible depending on your need.
During your appointment, we will ask for your views regarding the referral. Your medical history will then be taken and then there will be an assessment. We will discuss a probable diagnosis, appropriate treatment plan and liaison with your local services if this is necessary. We can also recommend further investigations, which may help us to determine your probable diagnosis.
You are welcome to ask any questions and you can bring family members or a friend for support.
We will offer a follow-up appointment if necessary.
Following your appointment, a report will be sent to you, your GP, and any other relevant healthcare professional, documenting the discussion and advice provided.
Who you'll see at your appointment
During your assessment, you will meet the following members of our team:
- specialist nurse practitioner
- independent prescriber
- consultant paediatrician, specialising in neuropathic bladders
