What does this service provide?
Who we are
Our multi-disciplinary team comprises of a consultant ENT (ear, nose and throat) surgeon, associate specialist in paediatrics, and a specialist speech and language therapist.
Multi-disciplinary team: A multi-disciplinary team (MDT) is a group of health and care staff who are members of different organisations and professions (e.g. GPs, social workers, nurses), that work together to make decisions regarding the treatment of individual patients and service users. MDTs are used in both health and care settings.
What we do
Our consultant ENT (ear, nose and throat) surgeon will carry out an examination of your ears, nose and throat to see what may be causing any oral difficulties you are experiencing. We may refer you for other ENT investigations or ENT surgery.
Our speech and language therapist will assess your oral ability and may arrange another appointment at your home, school, or local clinic to set up a programme to help you with speech, eating, drinking and/or saliva control.
Our associate specialist in paediatrics will discuss any health issues and medications with you that may be affecting your oral ability.
We will then discuss a treatment plan with you which may include one of the following options:
- further ENT investigations
- oral skills training
- palatal training therapy
- botulinum toxin
- medication
- ENT surgery
